And, in talks in June with WCC general secretary the Rev. Samuel Kobia, the Pope spoke of the "irreversible commitment" of the Catholic Church to the search for Christian unity. Still, Kasper suggested in Geneva it would be easier for the Catholic Church to reach agreement with Orthodox churches than with the Protestant denominations that emerged after the 16th century Reformation in Europe. He said, "The Catholic understanding of unity, understood as full communion in faith, sacraments and Church ministry, corresponds in principle with the understanding of our Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox sister churches, but unfortunately differs from the most usual interpretation of the mainline Protestant position..."
