Lawyer for
Great Princess appeals decision not to rehabilitate tsar's family
A lawyer for Great Princess Maria Vladimirovna has lodged an
appeal with the Russian Supreme Court's presidium challenging the decision not
to rehabilitate Emperor Nicholas II and members of his family.
"I have lodged an appeal with the presidium of the
Russian Supreme Court on behalf of the Head of the Russian Imperial House Great
Princess Maria Vladimirovna. It raises the issue of overturning the ruling of
the Russian Supreme Court's panel of judges dated November 8, 2006, and sending
the case for the rehabilitation of the tsar's family back for a new
trial," lawyer German Lukyanov told a press conference at the Interfax
head office in Moscow on Friday.
Last November, the Russian Supreme Court ruled against the
rehabilitation of Nicholas II and members of his family. The court thus upheld
the Russian Prosecutor General's decision not to rehabilitate the emperor, his
wife and five children executed in 1918.
