Next conference
on Middle East to be held in Moscow
“The participants in the international conference on
the Middle East in Annapolis “welcomed Russia’ s readiness to hold the next
meeting in Moscow,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told journalists on
Wednesday.
“We are yet to agree on the timeframe and agenda of
this meeting,” the minister specified. “First of all with taking into account
the progress of the direct work between the Palestinians and Israelis,”
according to Lavrov.
“There is the general understanding that meetings”
called in the format as in Annapolis “should be continued,” Lavrov stressed.
The minister also stated
that the Annapolis conference has become “a useful event” in the Middle East
settlement and Russia has positively influenced the agenda of the meeting. “The
result of the meeting is also positive – the sides concluded a document on the
beginning of direct talks based on existing documents – UN Security Council
resolutions and the “road map” plan, the Arab Peace Initiative and other, first
of all Madrid, conferences,” Lavrov noted....”
