“5,000 Take Part in Temple Mount March” About 5,000 people, according to police estimates, participated in the monthly march around the gates of the Temple Mount Sunday. Today is the first day of the month of Av, according to the Jewish calendar. As the Ninth of Av – the fast day commemorating the destruction of the Temple – draws near, many of the participants in the ceremony are motivated by a consciousness of the need to strengthen the Jewish presence on the Temple Mount in the hope of eventually rebuilding the Temple. *note* Israel Today says the number was much higher than in previous years!
