Holy Hill, the memorial of Russian unity, to be open in Pskov Region in September

“The grand opening of the Holy Hill symbolizing the Russian unity will be held in Pskov Region on the Holy Cross Day.  That (sic) was decided by the event’s planning committee held in Pskov.

The celebrations will include the grand opening itself as well as national and international conferences of philosophers, culturologists, businesspeople, writers, and NGO activists.

According to the planning committee chairman, the Pskov Region assembly speaker Boris Polozov, the plot is already prepared for the Hill, the project is ready too, and the construction is to start soon.

The project authors plan to construct the Hill out of soil taken from the different part of the Pskov Region’s historic sites. There will be a seven-meter larch cross on the hilltop.

‘If other Russian cities and regions like our idea, they may join our project too. Adding some soil form all the parts of Russia to the Holy Hill, people may metaphysically take their part in making of the new nation,’ a spokesperson for the local administration said.

The project was initiated by a group of politicians, NGO activists, businesspeople, and Russian Orthodox churchmen.

The monument of the Russian unity will be erected near the highway from Staryi Izborsk to Pechory. The soil for the hill will be excavated from the Truvor Settlement, the site of the Battle on the Ice, and the Staro-Yeleazarovsky Monastery, where Philotheus formulated his vision of Moscow as a Third Rome….”
